A five-storey building being used as a boys’ paying-guest accommodation in Satya Niketan, South Delhi, collapsed on Sunday, 6 September 2026, killing seven people and triggering questions over illegal construction, basement alterations, structural safety and municipal oversight.
The property was located near Delhi University’s South Campus, opposite Sri Venkateswara College, in an area heavily used by students for private PG accommodation.
When and where did the building collapse?
The building collapsed at around 1:30 PM on 6 September 2026 in Satya Niketan.
Municipal records cited in media reports identify the property as P-14, Satya Niketan, built on a plot of approximately 55 square yards.
It consisted of a basement and ground-to-fourth floors and was being operated as student accommodation. MCD records reportedly indicate that the structure was built in the 1990s.
